I've been reading a memoir "Chance and Circumstance" by the dancer Carolyn Brown that is about her experiences with John Cage and Merce Cunningham while she danced with Cunningham's company. She mentioned that Cage basically made friends everywhere he went. Reading that book really makes me think he would have been such a nice person to know, a real genuine human being. I don't really know much about dancing but reading how these people struggled and the relationships she had with people like Cage, Cunningham, Jasper Johns and Bob Rauschenberg has been very enjoyable.
